Hi Alex,
I am planning to apply for Fall 2012. I want to know which range of universities should I target. As of now I have only finalized ND Mendoza. I was looking aiming for top 30.Should I be looking northward or southward as far as the rankings go?
This is my profile in a nutshell:
Age:26
Nationality: Indian
Professional Experience: IC(Silicon chip) design engineer in an American semiconductor MNC. Currently working in Chennai India for a year so Far. I shall have 2 years by Fall 2012
GMAT:730 V:42 Q:49
Education
BS Electrical Engineering Cum Laude(Fall 03-Spring07) SUNY Binghamton GPA:3.6
Dean's List for Fall '04 Spr '04 Fall '05 Spr '05
MS Electrical Engineering (Fall 07-Spring10) SUNY Binghamton GPA:3.7
(MS degree took 3 years to complete partly because of recession and delays in manufacturing and testing the chip I designed for my MS project)
Professional Experience:
No clear leadership opportunities so far. Volunteered to do extra tasks on the side and been appreciated for the initiative. I do design work so there is a little bit of collaborative innovation involved there.
Campus experience:
Designed a silicon chip for my MS project. This work involved a fair bit of innovation.
Teaching assistant for 3 semesters. Handled more then 60 students. Occasionally
did ppt presentations and tutorials for students.
Math tutor at the Educational opportunities center at SUNY Binghamton
Student Manager at the Audiovisual services at SUNY Binghamton. Responsible for the student employees during the evening shift and in absence of the Supervisor.
Led two Graduate class project teams. Planned schedule, divided and delegated tasks, kept a close track of the team progress through regular meetings and updates.
Why do I want to do an MBA:
I eventually plan to start something of my own. MBA will give me knowledge, network and career opportunities to get closer to my goal. The opportunities that will not come by easily in my current position. I do have a few ideas but I am still not sure, which one to pursue. B-School environment will allow me to get a practical outlook on my current ideas and may be expose me to even more.
Short Term Plans: I am planning to pursue and MBA in operations or MIS and with some entrepreneurship emphasis. Opseration or MIS will allow me to pursue career opportunities in which I get a broad overview of all aspects of business.
Long term plan: After working for a few years , I plan to start a business when an opportunity presents itself.
Positives:
Uniqueness of my profile(I assume)
Extensive multicultural experience (USA and India)
Leadership opportunities on campus
Good people skills and language skills(I had to grade essays during my time as a TA)
Good academics and quantitative skills.
Negatives:
Lack of community service.
Less work experience.
Limited professional leadership opportunities.
Thanks and regards
