If your school hasn't made a scholarship offer yet, but you still plan on enrolling, when would you pay your deposit?

Seeing how I submitted my FAFSA only a couple weeks ago and my school starts announcing both merit and need based awards from 4/1 ~ 6/1, I wonder if I should postpone paying my deposit (deadline 5/15) until after I have received a scholarship offer? Clearly, this is the school I intend to enroll at, but they don't know that :?
