Good Marketing Schools [#permalink]

I read in U.S. News the top schools for marketing MBAs. The problem is, almost every school was in the top 15 and I need to apply to some programs that aren't in top 15 but still have a good marketing program but I can't find any resources for this.

The US News ranking system suffers from many shortcomings - while it might not be a bad idea to look at the rankings I would not take them very seriously as the sole arbiter of a school's quality or academic reputation.

There are many near elite and transelite schools with strong programs in marketing including Indiana, South Carolina, USC (Marshall), Florida and Minnesota.

One thing that I did when I was in your shoes was draw up a list of companies that I might want to work for, and then found out what schools they recruited at. Most schools release a list of companies that recruited on campus in the previous year, and those lists are a good place to start. I also directly contacted a few companies, although I didn't always get anywhere.

BTW, if you do look at those lists put out by schools' career centers, be aware that in some cases the companies actually recruited on campus, and in other cases they may have hired someone, but that person found the job on their own, through an off-campus search. The latter isn't necessarily bad, but the former is better. But that's another way to find some potential diamonds in the rough.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm open to working for many companies but my tops would be video game (product/brand marketing) and films. USC and UCLA seem to have many companies that I'm interested in that recruit there.

Yeah, that makes sense. If you're targeting companies like EA and Activision (plus dozens of smaller ones), and maybe even Microsoft, then going to school on the west coast is probably your best bet.

Hi,

These more specific goals change things a bit - I would consider Irvine and Washington (WA) and perhaps some regional schools such as Pepprdne.

Thanks for all the advice. Right now, I'm looking at UCLA, USC, Indiana(Kelley), & UNC. I want to apply to about 6-7 schools because I need to start the MBA next year so the research goes on.

How about some other transelite schools such as Texas and Emory?
