So it seems fairly evident that one should visit the bschool to which one will apply, if at all possible. When is a good time to visit, in terms of timeline?

Should one visit asap, just to get a feel for the school then maybe visit again? Or should one do exhaustive research about the school before actually visiting?

I think it really depends on the location of the school compared to where you're at right now. In my situation, I applied to a couple schools that were on the other side of the country, and I don't have the means to fly to each school twice (I am going to do on-campus interviews once I submit my apps).

Getting a view of the campus is certainly important, but I think it pales in comparison to the raw data: recruiting companies, placement stats, teaching style, etc. If you have the ability to fly to each school you are thinking about applying to before going through with the app, then by all means go for it. But in my opinion, I don't think it is a necessity.
