Got 680 (Q51, V29). [#permalink] New post 06 Nov 2006, 15:01
Hi all,

This is my first article since I've been logging this website for several months. I had my GMAT test last weekend and got 680. It was the second try.

I was so embarrassed and sad when I got 6xx instead of 7xx. I had taken GMAT test a month ago for the first time and had 650 (Q50 V28). Since I was confident with Q section, I've invested all my time and concentrated on Verbal.

But, a month effort on verbal increased only 1 point. I was so disappointed to have such a result. I understand I'm not native to English.

I had GMATprep score over 750 couple of times before my second test and looked for 7xx.

Since I do not have time to shoot another try, so I need to use this score. But, I'm afraid that my Q/V scores do not look so balanced. Is there anybody who can advice this Q/V unbalance issue?

I'm targeting part-time MBA that has average GMAT score around 660.
Thank you.

for 660 average you should be good, you can show your verbal skills in your application essay probably. your Q skills would look great too

im sort of on the same boat - my Q score is much higher than my verbal. personally, I am going to re-take the GMAT in a month since I've been scoring higher on all my practice exams. I'm going to just go over verbal for the next 3 weeks, then the last week go over both Q and V.

As for b-school, I think you should be fine since your overall score is higher than the mean. If you have a weak GPA or work experience, you might want to boost your GMAT score to compensate...

Your overall score should be fine, but you will need to convince the schools of your verbal abilities in your essays. Actually I view this as something of a catch-22. The schools will pay extra attention to your essays because your verbal score is low, but if you produce stunning essays they may question the disjoint between your verbal score and the quality of your essays.

Obviously, you Q will be a plus anywhere.

I am in the same boat,

applied ....got wait-listed then dinged from Booth..........even though i got 7 yrs management experience from Fortune 100 companies...

It depends which schools you want to apply, they will definitely look favorably on your quant. It will come down to low percentile on verbal...........

Now i am retaking gmat to improve verbal....
