Got Accepted to Michigan (Part- Time) [#permalink] New post 11 Nov 2005, 09:46
I got a call yesterday that I got accepted to Michigan MBA(Part-Time). Its a long journey for me and its really worth the pain and efforts that I spent on realizing my long cherished dream.
I applied for the last semester at Michigan, but didn't submit in Chicago for weekend after getting interviewed(See one of my earlier posts in this sub section of the Forum). My app got dinged at Michigan. In one of the information sessions of Michigan, I realized that they offer feedback session(On selective basis according to them). I requested for a feedback session and Admissions director was kind enough to offer me feedback. I was asked to work on my essays. She told me that they would normally advise students NOT to apply in the very next semester as you can't highlight the achievements in 3 months of time(typically the time difference between your successive apps).
When I asked her about my GMAT score, she told me its ok. I guess that my previous essays were terrible. So, I spent quite a bit of time on my essays and could pull it through. I can tell you confidently that if you have strong essays with good (Decent is enough) recos and your score falls in the median, you can probably pull it through. I had a strategy this time and I guess my essays are ok.
I knew that my score was 640 and below the median, but still dared to give another attempt with strong essays. Probably, I told the same story with a different spin:-):-). I didn't want to take any external help of any consultancies for essays as they can't represent YOU(which is important).
First part of my journey is over !!
Another journey starts now!!!

P.S. For those of you, who are interested in Chicago, 640 - 650 is a pretty decent score for Part-Time and Evening MBA Programs. One of the students who interviewed me at Chicago had the same score(Thats what he told me requesting me to keep it confidently when I expressed my concern abt my GMAT score). He got admitted for 2005 Jan.
