GPA question [#permalink] New post 18 Mar 2011, 07:00
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with this question I have. I graduated from a Top 20 private with a 3.3 cumulative gpa (econ major) after having transferred from a state school after my freshman year with a 4.0 gpa. Will adcoms take a weighted average of these figures or will they just use my 3.3? Thanks.

They should take a weighted average, or at least a holistic consideration of all your academic records. You were wise to transfer, as a 3.3 at a top 20 is a far better credential than a 4.0 at a state school in most cases, at least from the adcom's perspective. Name brand pedigree goes a long way with a name brand b-school.
