This post was
BOOKMARKED
22. In its most recent approach, the comet Crommelin
passed the Earth at about the same distance and in
about the same position, some 25 degrees above the
horizon, (that Halley's comet will pass) the next time
it appears.

(A) that Halley's comet will pass
(B) that Halley's comet is to be passing
(C) as Halley's comet
(D) as will Halley's comet
(E) as Halley's comet will do

What is wrong with ( as will do...)

Please try to understand the difference.

He is as tall as I am.

Do i need am here .NO

Simlarly, our meaning is conveyed by option D.

as will hailey's comet.

We do not require a do after will. Since, we also have to retain parallelism.

Still don't get it [#permalink] New post 15 Jul 2003, 13:54
As tall- as ( noun)

As will- as (verb)

As Haley's Comet will do- how does this violate parallelism ?

How does the past time (passed) conform to the future (will)? IMHO: the latter should be WOULD

The event is going to happen in future..

How can you use a past tense verb "would". It has to be "will".
