Hi there, I'm starting to think about putting together my MBA app for next year and am concerned that gaining admission may be tough since I have no significant ECs since college - tbh I'd rather rest in my downtime from work :p Hoping to get a sense of the strength of my application...
My profile:
Age: 27-29 at matriculation
Country: outside the Americas (and not India/China etc)
Education: Bachelor in engineering, GPA 3.8/4 at university in home country
MS in engineering at Berkeley/MIT/Stanford, GPA 3.8/4, several academic publications
Work experience: (At matriculation) ~4 years at a top tier management consultancy with one promotion
GMAT: yet to sit assuming I need 730 to be competitive... dreading it since my GRE scores were horrible
Extracurriculars: played in college varsity sport team and won national tournament, participation in some charity/outreach programs during college
Letters of rec: From senior partners at my company, all Harvard MBAs
Essays: not a whole lot of leadership experience so I'm worried about this too... probably will have to write about things at work.
Goal of MBA: I want to return to consulting so am hoping a H/S/W network and brand name will help me gain credibility and build relationships with clients as I move into more senior positions within my firm (or another or who knows I might find something else interesting to pursue)! And also I think it would be an amazing experience
I think a strength of my app is the international background and experience, but weaknesses seem to be lack of substantial ECs, and also density of applicants from my industry (consulting). Is this a fair assessment?
Given that I have another year before applying, what steps can and should I take to strengthen my app? I'm only interested in the top schools because while an MBA would help, it is by no means required to advance successfully in my country.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks!
