I mean, I guess the Bollywood might remind the adcom too acutely that you're an Indian applicant, but if it conjures up real, authentic, and interesting memories of your life, I don't see any problem with that. And well, Pink Floyd is a classic! I thought about referencing one of my favorite songs, River by Joni Mitchell and how it was totally ruined for me when I heard it playing at a sex shop in Chicago. Haha, then I decided that fell into the category of "TMI" (too much information). Hahaha the "River" incident is funny indeed. I think I am very close to finding the right song. I asked couple of friends a theme is emerging. About the blog yes, I haven't typed anything for a while. I had couple of good articles I wanted to post but haven't gotten around that yet. About the GMAT, my confidence was shattered after the miserable score of 610. My prac test scores were pretty solid. Last 4 test in 730+ on Gmat prep. After that I scored 610. So I am still recovering. I have a previous score of 650. I might as well go with that. We will see. I will keep you posted.

Hello everyone! I have a question on the deadlines. If one gets accepted to Haas, what are the deadlines for decision to attend for different rounds? Any information on that? Thanks!

I am not quite sure. I checked last year's thread and couldn't find anything related to it. Although I checked only 5 pages. If you have patience and courage you can go through that or just email the adcom. Sorry I couldn't help you much.

True story (as Barney would say) : I was listening to radio in my car and "Rocket Man" started playing. I told myself this would be a perfect song for the Haas essay because me being an Aerospace engg and all. I looked up the lyrics, not related at all. In fact I don't even have a wife. I also looked in to the "the Joker" by Steve Miller because it starts with "Some people call me space cowboy" but same problem. I think I might have to settle down with a Pink Floyd or Bob Dylan since you can interpret it however you like to. Especially tumbleweed and all in Bob Dylan's song.

I am secretly hoping they'll play the songs while reading the essay. Think how cheerful and happy the adcom would be. They'll just accept all of us! I also think they should be required to answer this question for themselves in their explanation. It would be fun to get to know them that way. At least we know that if we end up at Haas we'll have a good icebreaker question!

I am not sure if each and every line should have a meaning. I have shortlisted few songs and even though 75% of the stanzas do express my view of life, 25% is, simply put, arbit. Now I want to go ahead and explain the 75% of the part which matters. It's a balance between lyrics and our perception of them. Cheers Ankit

I guess if we mention about how music in the song makes a difference, they might listen to the song as well, wouldn't they? Ankit

Ankit They'll probably rope some poor undergraduate intern into making a CD with all our songs on it and then when they've made the class they'll take only the songs of the matriculated students and give it to us at graduation. And we'll cry and think of how lucky we are to be there. TEAR!

It is about the time I let go. Overall I am happy that I am done with GMAT.
