I wish Stanford starts offering a EWMBA program. That would ease competition at Haas a tad bit and give part-time folks a shot at the Stanford goodness.

I suspect there aren't enough students in the Bay Area to support two programs. Stanford does have a couple other part time masters in related fields though.

I'm sure the Stanford reputation can attract a number of out-of-state (and LA/SD) students and encourage outstanding bay area candidates sitting on the side-lines to apply.

In the end, I'm pretty sure the west-coast can muster up demand for 400-500 seats. The northeast is supporting more than 2000 seats.

The northeast is quite a bit more densely populated than the west coast. The Bay Area has 6.7 million people in total. The NY metro area on the other hand has 22 million.

You're right. Its sometimes easy to lose sight of how awesome the bay area is.

That it is. It's one of the many pluses Berkeley has over the competition.

Aren't there universities like UC Davis, Santa Clara too? I am sure bay area can absorb 500 seats easily!

Well, the problem is attracting the same caliber of student that you have in your full time program. If you drop the GMAT requirement to sub 500, you can get tons of students. They just might not be as successful as your full time students, thus diluting the brand. Haas actually manages to do this quite well. NYU does this less so.

The spread between FT and PT GMAT scores at Haas is 23 points. At NYU, it's closer to 50 points. This is why you get the attitude that rhyme has here:

You said you are from Seattle...I imagine you work for a certain large conglomerate on the east side?

Nope. I work for a mid-sized consulting firm. I actually don't have any ties to the Seattle area, I just want to live here and work doesn't care as long as I'm near an airport. So, I moved here from the Bay Area 3 or 4 years ago.

Did you get the email too? Am I the only odd one out here?

I did get an email (2 weeks back) from a gentleman who is a 2nd year EWMBA student. He mentioned the AdCom connected him with me. As you know I got my result already and I am waitlisted. I actually don't recall requesting the AdCom to connect me with someone. So, getting an email is a positive sign, not a negative sign by any means!

Hmmm. That's interesting. I am hoping that it's not all over for folks who have not received an email from a current student (inc. me)!

I wouldn't take the email as any sort of sign. From what I can tell, it looks like only people in Seattle got one. We'll find out tomorrow or friday if that has any relevance to being admitted.

If you can't make it, they'll do an interview via skype. They're not doing any weekend interviews and with my schedule, it's near impossible to get down to the Bay Area during the week. So, I ended up doing it via skype. Whether that looks bad or not to the adcomm, no idea.
