I think it only means that calsteve is considered as a 2nd round applicant (and so are the rest of us who are waitlisted) and is being sent out an interview invite along with R2 applicants.

There are 43 people on the wait list chat today. 4 are adcoms. so roughly 40 people got waitlisted.
On this thread, currently 11 people registered as waitlisted. So we are having a very good sample here.

Well, there were 40 people that were able to show up for the chat. All you really know is there are at least 40 people on the list. Try not to over think this. There are many variables that you don't know about and it's fairly impossible to tell what your chances are. Posted from my mobile device

The college infact was ready to let the waitlisted candidates go... They asked us if we wanted to be on the WL. Had we said no, that would have been the end of story... Which means, they were ok with losing us... So that just means that they got a lot of applicants like me... And they are ok to let me go... Pretty discouraging... But Haas is my #1 choice school!!! ;(

The above article is very generic. The story might be true for fulltime MBA programs where there are lot of national and international applications ready to take over your seat. Part-time MBA programs should be altogether different story. The applicant pool is small. Just my guess. Based on today's chat session, the Adcom was very clear that R1 waitlist = R2 applicant. So I will say keep your hopes high like I have

This post received KUDOS
Also, just to up the morale of this group, I heard (from a very reliable source) that Haas received a lot more applications in R1 compared to any of the previous years and also that number of R2 applications is not that high. This means that many from waitlist will be admitted for sure. (and the conversion ratio may be higher than previous years). If GMAT club forum is a good enough sample space, you can see the number of R2 applicants this year is way too less compared to R1: (17 R2 vs. 29 R1) haas-ewmba-2012-calling-all-applicants-120315.html?fl=similarAlso, the same stat for last year - you can see more R2 applicants than R1 (28 R2 vs 19 R1). So, we need to be more positive here folks!

Thanks guys! You all are great to be talking to! I think today was one of those days when nothing at home was going right for me (and hence the discouragement). Thanks for the support and I really hope that we all get thru!!!

I thought it was very very banal, no useful info. I couldn't help but think that this whole waitlist thing is like drama part of a boring Bollywood story There is no clear indication of why a particular applicant is waitlisted, or what is the missing piece of puzzle so we can address better - what is the point then? - Why was I waitlisted? - Sorry cant answer that - What part of my application is the weak link so I can address it better - Sorry cant answer that - Is there anything specific I can do from my application PoV to help myself? - Sorry cant answer that Why have a chat with a super tough password with the wait-listed candidates? If any of you actually read the waitlist chat transcripts from past couple of years, you will feel like this chat was a rewind and play of the same crap. Sorry guys - am just very frustrated.

Don't be! You are already in UCLA!! Take some time off, have fun! Either ways, Haas/UCLA, once your class starts, you will not be able to get time! Enjoy these precious moments...
