Also, just to up the morale of this group, I heard (from a very reliable source) that Haas received a lot more applications in R1 compared to any of the previous years and also that number of R2 applications is not that high. This means that many from waitlist will be admitted for sure. (and the conversion ratio may be higher than previous years).
If GMAT club forum is a good enough sample space, you can see the number of R2 applicants this year is way too less compared to R1: (17 R2 vs. 29 R1)
haas-ewmba-2012-calling-all-applicants-120315.html?fl=similar
Also, the same stat for last year - you can see more R2 applicants than R1 (28 R2 vs 19 R1).

So, we need to be more positive here folks!

calculas... please don't worry too much... there are a few of us who haven't received it....
in any case, that email about the workshop is not an admission/rejection email to the EWMBA program...
you have submitted additional material already... so don't worry about it now...
the results will be out in a couple of weeks anyways...
until then... as they say... "it ain't over until it's over!"..
you anyways should not worry too much... u have a UCLA admit... which i know quiet a few of us don't have...
so u are still in a better boat than many out here...

Here's some unsolicited feedback. Long, so applogies in advance. This reflects my opinion only and no more information than people on this list have:
1. Re-taking the GMAT doesn't make sense to me if you're already in the median range. Even if one gets an 800, it just shows that the applicant can do almost any grade school math problems in 2 minutes....this is just a hurdle to pass to show that you can grasp basic concepts and shows you can get into study mode if needed.
2. Taking the stats waiver might be beneficial but I wouldn't put too much weight on it. Given that they ask almost every admitted student to do the waiver suggests that almost everyone that gets admission, does so without taking the waiver exam.
3. Re-writting essays are useful if you feel you weren't able to do your story justice and didn't get enough time to write properly. Psychologically, I think it helps because they are forced to read your story again and remind themselves why they liked and put you on WL to begin with. On the other hand, if you're not substantially improving your essays, or if you contradict your first submission, it might just piss them off.
4. Any change to your position or resume that would better describe your role and responsibilities would help in my opinion. Doesn't have to be a promotion only. Could be a new project, a different cross functional group you're working with, a salary increase based on your annual review (showing you're a valued employee and have potential)
5. It's frustrating to wait, but try to keep in mind that the adcom likes your application to put you on WL - they don't have time to waste reviewing your application again in comparison with new applicants, if they didn't think you had a really good chance. The WL is just giving R3 and R4 applicants a fair chance, albeit at the cost of frustrating you.

Hope this helps in some way

Hi guys,

I have been watching the thread develop.
I am what you guys call a "Lurker". :)

Thought, I should share the info as I've been reading your responses.
I just got a call from Julia. She had interviewed me as well.

I applied in R1 and was waitlisted. I took the statistics prerequisite exam on March 15th, and cleared it.
My profile:

Indian
Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience in a major tech company in Colorado.
GMAT 750
3 strong professional recommendations
Medium-strong extracurricular activities and leadership roles outside of work

I had also applied to Chicago Booth and got through there.

Good luck to everyone here.

You have asked a million dollar question now. :)

Anyone looking for some tips can PM me with their profile and I can try to help with your WL updates. I can suggest some actions based on what I feel might have worked for me.

Does anyone out here know how will the waitlisted candidates be evaluated?
Will they be offered admission from seats left after offering admissions to R2 candidates?
Or will all the waitlisted folks be given equal opportunity to compete with the R2 pool for all the available seats?

From the stats, we can speculate that they admitted 20% of the R1 applicants. Dinged 30% and waitlisted 50%. Does that sound reasonable?
Assume they admit 37.5 in R1. That means there are ~200 applications in R1. 50% waitlisted means 100 are on the waitlist now. That sounds ridicules.

Continue on that thought, if they get 300 applications on R2. The total pool will be 300(new)+100(waitlist). Since they will admit 40% of 250 seats in R2, that is 100. The rate of admit is only 25% for round2.

Continue on to R3, one can get similar numbers (25% admit), this conflits with the 44% admit rate. So some numbers above must be WRONG. But which?

Interesting exercise. I can't imagine a full 50% of applicants are waitlisted, that seems quite high. I'm not sure how representative GMC is of the whole population.

i doubt that they will waitlist 50% applicants... but hey, who knows! :(
i am not very confident of this waitlist pool anyways... since they already have all the R2 applications in front of them...
don't they already have an idea on who'd make the final cut and who wont?
i doubt they will give us equal opportunity as R2 folks... if they do, then that would mean that R1 is the most important round that one should apply in... which, according to the school, is irrelevant... :(

Did rd2 interviews go out yet? I recall that they do almost no evaluation on the application until the interview is done.

In any case, if I were the adcom I'd first take the absolute must admits for round 2 then compare the remainder with the waitlisted from round 1. So essentially that would mean we effectively just applied again in round 2.

The fact that we are allowed "updates" might simply be our opportunity to "catch up" those few months that the round 2 folks had to get promotions, increase responsibility, etc.

Just my guess

Here are my profile details for the initial post -

700 GMAT, 3.4 GPA undergrad, 3.9 grad.
4+ years in semiconductor, male, bay area.

My biggest concern was length of work experience. From class visits, talking to students and student profiles on the Haas website, I got the impression that Haas likes much older candidates.
So the good news for engineers contemplating Haas EWMBA somewhat early into their careers is that -- it is possible!
