Hi everyone,

I have a background in healthcare and plan to stay in the industry.
My work experience prior to business school is marketing and product planning
and my immediate post-MBA goal is to work in consulting as a generalist then to transition into a specialist.
Given that I will be pursuing the MBA/MPH dual degree and a career in consulting post-MBA,
what school would be the best fit for me?

The dual degree will require 2.5 yrs at Haas, 3 at Ross and 2 at Tuck (min).
Haas' dual degree program has been around for quite some time whereas it's rather new in other two schools.
Also, I've been offered some scholarship at Ross.

I'm an international applicant so will need my employer to sponsor me for a work visa.
I've been told that Tuck has a strong reputation among all the top consulting firms (more likely to sponsor),
but in terms of location and the program, Haas seems to be a better fit for my long-term interest in healthcare.
Yet, from what I know, Haas doesn't sound quite like a consulting school compared to Ross & Tuck.

Your help would be very much appreciated! :)

I think Tuck is a fairly easy call here. All three are good programs, but Tuck is the shortest with the MPH, and places by far the best into MBB (you mentioned you are interested in their healthcare practices). Tuck also places into the top healthcare consultancies, a number of whom recruit on campus.

dopiest congrats on your admit! My two cents would be that Haas and Tuck have a very similar reputation in most circles. However, Tuck and Ross are more in line with 'consulting', whereas, Haas places lot more people in Tech. Saying that if you decide to attend Haas you will still have access to top consulting firms. I personally feel that access to consulting companies should not be your only criteria to select your school. All these schools will give you access to top consulting firms and then you have to do well in interviews to get in. Essentially if you are a great candidate, you can end up at MBB or any other consulting firm from any of these three schools.

Since MBA / MPH is a somewhat new program, my recommendation would be to opt for something that has been around longer. Also, I am just curious, how come you never pursued Duke MBA with goal to get a certificate in Health Sector Management. I am no expert, but it seems that Duke's bread and butter is their Heath Sector Management, which has essentially been around for a long time and attracts great consulting and healthcare companies (https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/student_resou ... rtificates)

Shakandbake Thank you for your input. I did consider Fuqua and also Wharton in the beginning for their healthcare specific programs.
However, I did not want to pigeonhole myself in healthcare and wanted more flexibility in the program.
Finally, after speaking to recent graduates and current students, I learned that I had a better cultural fit with the schools I ended up applying to.

I am still waiting on Tuck November Round results but if I do get in, it'll be a very difficult situation for me.
Having met and known many Tuckies personally, I feel strongly inclined to the program despite its higher cost and geography.
I think I might try to stop by Hanover (if I get in) when I visit the US early March for Haas admitted student weekend.

(I've been preaching this on other threads but I'll repeat it here because I think it's an important point to make)

I'd recommend you ditch the MPH and go to Tuck, which has very strong connections with top consulting firms, unless you want to be on the West Coast, in which case Haas is the obvious choice.

It's hard to justify the extra cost and time for getting the MPH degree when you have access to essentially the same career opportunities without it (especially if your goal is to recruit for general management consulting). In most cases, you can get the MPH education by taking courses in the Public Health department and counting them towards your MBA electives. My sense is that few people really value the additional 3 letters on your resume (or 2 letters for JD/MBA). The MBA is in itself a strong enough brand that you don't need to supplement it with something else.

Why don't you look at healthcare-specific consulting firms and see where they recruit? That should be 1 data point, along with everything else that is mentioned.
For example, Putnam Associates only recruits at Tuck amongst the 3 schools you're looking at (but they also recruit at very few schools for MBA's). What about other healthcare consulting firms?
