I am wondering if geographical location indeed makes a difference as Sarajevo123 suggested.

Is there anyone from Europe who received invites today?

I`m worried that it`s by region and industry - since they need to compare you to your peers, right? My theory is that as the apps come in they are sorted into buckets, and then each bucket is analyzed and sorted into the different admit/ding groups. I mean, that`s how I would do it. Doing it by order doesn`t make sense, what if you start giving interviews then see that much stronger candidates from that region/industry have submitted as well?

I read in Dee Leopold's webinar transcript -- kindly published by somebody here -- that they indeed sort by industry.

Quote:
Question: Do you have any recommendations about how the board looks at international applicants?

Leopold: We have a deep and strong admissions board that has seen applications from many countries and many schools. When you come in the door as an applicant, our way of sorting first is by the industry in which you work, not the country from which you come. We like to start with things you have chosen, not by chance. That’s our first organizing principle. No, it’s not as if we are deciding how many students we would like from a certain country. There are no targets or quotas.

Received an invitation 12.03 EST, I'm from South America so I guess they are indeed sending invitations out of the US as I've heard from brazilians receiving invetes too

Did you get an invite? I thought your last post indicated that you didnt and you were wondering how invites were rolling out

This is a really interesting hypothesis.

I think this is correct. I was at an HBS admissions event in Boston earlier this fall where Dee spoke. She said that different adcom members are in charge of different industries and/or geographies. So it would make sense that whichever industry/geography groups have already been evaluated would have invites sent out today, whereas those industry/geography groups that have not yet been evaluated will go out next week. But who really knows?!

WO. So, any admits from pharma/biotech in North America yet, you know, hypothetically speaking?

I've been worried silly that its 10/17 invites for admissions and 10/24 invites for WL.

North America? Is Pharma and Biotech considered the same industry?

Yes, North America. My assumption is they would lump pharma and biotech together based on reports sent out previously that list the fields that class members come from.

Has anyone recently received an invite i.e. in the past 20 mins or so?

I'm wondering whether they sent out everything around 12:00 EST or whether they are sending over the course of the past few hours.

Did anyone in North America in Venture Capital / Private Equity get an invite?

Based on the people who said yes I didn't see anyone with that descriptor - just wondering if they broached that "category" yet.

Thanks.

I read on another board that someone had called the HBS Admissions Office and they stated that all of today's invites have been sent out.

On another note, have any engineers from the US received interview invites? If so, which industry? Thanks.

No e-mail here in Green Bay, WI, although I'm in IT and my referees got their documents in a couple hours before the deadline, so I hold out hope for next week!
