HBS-HKS Joint Degree

Fellow GMAT-Club members,
according to the HBS website, applications for the dual degree at HBS and HKS will be evaluated separately. I have been planning to apply for an MBA for quite some time and am 100% committed to get a business degree. Nevertheless, an MPP would align very well with my past experience and with my career goals. Do you think an application to the joint program will somehow hamper my chances at either one of the Schools? I would prefer being taken by either one of the programs, so I am thinking about applying to both schools without the dual degree option, if this would increase my chances to get in.
Thank you very much for your help.

I don't believe your application to the dual degree will hamper your chances at either school -- each program really does assess you independently. From what I hear, there are quite a few people who applied to the dual degree and were only accepted to HKS (have not personally heard of anyone who had the opposite result, but I'm sure it happens). I have several friends and section mates who are doing the dual degree program. Goes without saying, but it's very competitive. I think you're smart to apply to the dual degree as well as other traditional MBA programs to keep your options open and maximize your chances of getting admitted to a top program. Best of luck!
