I would like to put a query to all of you?

Which one is better, HEC Paris or Oxford Business school ?

Both are great schools. Obviously Oxford (the university rather than the School) has a stronger brand. I would go for Oxford if you wish to work in the UK or if you prefer a one year degree

hi Ducksworth;

Thanks for writing to me. Working in UK or a 12 month MBA is not my priority. I am only concerned by the fact that Oxford has stronger brand name than HEC outside UK and Europe.

Fraz. A couple of remarks:

Which is your intended post-MBA industry/location? Take a look at this ranking by specialisation. Might help:
http://www.topmba.com/mba-rankings

Also, the main source of funding for European MBAs in Prodigy Finance. As far as I am aware, HEC is not part of this scheme (Oxford is) and I am not familiarised about HECs support in this obviously important matter. This can also be a defining factor.

Well ranking wise, at least HEC Paris is usually the top European Business School on FT rankings. Also HEC is a lot older than Oxford (the MBA). HEC Paris is top of the top in France whereas LBS rules the UK with the Oxford MBA not being that amazing. And finally, HEC gives you a very strong alumni network, 4th in the world in CEO's and 1st in Europe.

As you can see I am a bit biased but after all, this is the HEC Paris thread.

Well HEC Paris might or might not be in the Prodigy Finance scheme but HEC, unlike most other programmes, offers scholarships ranging from 6-24K of which the 6-12K are very easy to get, significantly lowering the cost of the MBA and offering great value for money.

Honest question: how do HEC students fund their MBAs mostly? Does HEC have agreements with local banks to help overseas students?

It has been a week since I received a pre-selection mail saying that interviews will be scheduled and I should start with the presentation. However, the Adcom didn't provide details about the interview venue and schedules. They just wrote that they are trying to schedule according to my preferred choice viz. Bangalore.

I already sent official transcripts and they were received at HEC office. How much do I wait before I mail them again asking for the details/progress?

I received a preselection email on February 18 and notification of my two interviewers the following day. I am located in Los Angeles, so there may be more alumni in the area. The interviews need to be completed by March 5, 2013, so I think you should definitely reach out as I believe there is only one admission jury per month. They won't provide too many details, though. I just received the interviewers' names and email addresses and it was my responsibility to reach out and arrange time/place.

Rohitrai,

I see that you are matriculating to HEC in September, congratulations! I have my interviews next week. I had decided to do a presentation on issues in international restructuring (my background), but I just found a chat with admissions on line that discouraged doing a professional presentation. What topic did you choose?

If you had your interviews already then good luck with the result!

For the subject I would say you could talk about anything you are passionate about and that you think a) is appropriate for the setting and b) you think the interviewers will find interesting. I think you are not encouraged to talk about things that have been covered in your application. You should show that a) your English fluency is of a good level, and b) you are an interesting person with interesting things to say. If you covered these you should be fine.

I thought someone here said that the school is going to form a group on facebook. I tried to create it just now but FB wouldn't let me create it unless I add a friend to it. I will send you a personal message to connect with me on FB and then we can start the group. Let me know if that sounds okay?

Regards,
Rohit
