HEC Paris - Sep 2010 intake [#permalink]
20 Feb 2009, 01:23
Hi everyone,
am totally new here and would like to talk to those who have an experience with HEC Paris. Am now 28 y.o., Russian, have about 6 years of working experience, but have never passed neither GMAT nor TOEFL. Have about a year ahead of me to pass those tests and than am willing to apply to HEC Paris for Sep' 2010 intake. Anyone here with similar plans? Anyone who could advise anything useful? Am considering ESSEC as a second option; generally would like to find job in France or in a French company in Russia afterwards.
Will be grateful for all comments and tips.

Hi nyinbxl,
4 yrs WE by 24/25 is good indeed.
for my part, i Think im still struggling with essay 1. although standard, the three separate questions have to be answered without losing the personal side of your story.
Q 2to 5 are really creative.good chance , i guess, to differentiate yourself from the rest.
IMO, storytelling will matter more than the story. You can pick 4 different influential moments from your life and give the entire application a versatile feel.
that's what i did!

Hi prasun84, thanks a lot for the insight - this is really helpful. Did you apply to HEC last year or are you giving it a go this year?

Nopes. I am applying for SEP 2010. by the way, I read somewhere(maybe on accepted.com chat) that HEC doesn't entertain re-applicants.

That's interesting about re-applicants. Makes sense, though, I guess since they don't have a section in the essays for the usual 'how has your profile improved?'.
Re R1, yeah I realized I actually meant R2. That's a really quick deadline for R1 - i wonder how many people will be able to get everything together by then!?

Well the Chat was dated sometime in 2006 so the rules may have changed..considering the fact that the latest application form does have a tick box for re-applicants. yeah...I too am aiming for the 26th Oct deadline.

Nationality: Indian (yeah we are gonna take over the world soon! ) But, fortunately, i stayed away from IT i am a senior design engineer at an offshore design center of one of the leading french auto suppliers. good luck to you all with your applications. I have already missed the R1 deadline! so wish me luck for R2.

Hello! I am working on the HEC essays this week for R2 as well. A little about me: Age: Will be turning 26 by 2010 intake. WE: 4.5 yrs in clinical research by 2010 at 4 medical device companies (due to divesting, mergers, start-up financing). Increasing progression in WE, 2 Fortune 500 companies (current employer is 1) GMAT: Not stellar, but 640 GPA: 3.55 in Neurobiology from Top 10 state school Vitals: Chinese-American/F Can anyone provide their thoughts on my odds for European schools? Ideally, I'd love to stay in France or the UK to work at a local affiliate for my current company. Thanks!

Well, let's breathe some new life into this thread!
Anyone submit applications yet? I submitted in the nick of time for R2, and haven't gotten any response yet.

Same. I submitted on the 22, but my recs arrived on 10/25. Haven't heard anything yet either... However, looking at the pagalguy forum, it looks like they do get back to you quicker than other places - one guy who submitted on 10/13 heard back on 10/23...

Anyone has an idea of how long they take to respond to the preliminary assessment?
I went to their online application site and filled up the quick assessment form and am waiting for a reply for the last 3 days. Just curious if anyone filled that form and got a reply.

yes, i filled it up and got a fairly quick response. (especially considering that i filled it up in the middle of the french summer vacations), it took them about 5 working days to get back to me.
the response is quite detailed. they will tell you what you lack in your profile and what is sufficient based on what input you have provided.
Finally, the response is clear enough for you to make that to-apply-or-not-to-apply decision very easily.
