Risha,

You have an unusual profile (hospitality industry) but with good leadership. But your GMAT score will make Wharton, Chicago, Michigan, Yale, Darden, and Duke tough for you. If you could raise it to 700 I would gladly sing a different tune. Your Tier 3 schools should come through for you. Given Cornell's stength in the hospitality industry, you may want to add it to your list.

Good luck,

Thanks a lot for evaluating my profile :-).

I got a chance to meet the Wharton Admissions Committe Head personally on his Mba tour to Mumbai,India.
I told him my profile and asked him if i need to give GMAT again, he said, if u trust on my words, then dont give it again, because ur acads compensate for the low quant score in GMAT.

I was targetting 15-20 ranked schools but he asked me to aim high. Im actually in a confused state now. Was he saying so just to make me apply to Wharton? Or is wharton the only school among the top ones which doesnt give much stress on getting a 7**?

I was keeping Tier 3 just as safe schools. But, now i feel i must change my target schools -
R1) Wharton, Cornell, Duke
R2) Rochester, Purdue, Indiana

I hope i'm being practical enough now. Kindly give ur valueable opinion.

Risha,

I tend to take the encouraging words of adcoms with a grain of salt: (a) they want to encourage people to apply because it makes their school look good and (b) they probably sincerely want to put the best spin they can on people's chances because they see how much the MBA means to them. I am not discouraging you from applying to Wharton, Cornell, and Duke with a 660 GMAT. It's not a bad score and you seem to have a really unusual and outstanding professional profile, so I would not be shocked if Cornell or Duke admitted you. I do think Wharton is the longest-shot of those three schools and remains a long shot regardless of what the adcom told you. Regarding "aiming high," I don't think the other schools traditionally ranked with Wharton would be anymore doable for you then Wharton is--they would be long shots (though not impossibilities) as well. I think you can be optimistic about your round 2 schools. If retaking the GMAT is not feasible for you for time reasons or doing so will take time away from the rest of your app, then you don't need to retake it. It wasn't clear how much current community involvement you have, which is another factor the top schools look for.

Good luck,
