Jon,

Thank you for this evaluation. It is indeed food for thought.I need to work on coming up with a list of schools which includes some upper ranked schools and some safe ones. How many schools do you think it would be reasonable to apply to in each category?2 reach and 4 safe given that all of them are good?Apart from CMU and UCLA,which other higher ranked program would you suggest for tech with my profile?

I am starting out drafts on some topics almost all schools target and i feel i have sufficient time for early decision deadlines/R1 in all schools.Coming up with a final list seems more daunting right now as the expenses/tuition pages for almost all my schools gives me mini heart attacks every time.  But like you said, missing out on some awesome schools would be a bad move.

Thank you in advance for your time!Kudos for the great initiative!
Ralph

Well, I'd say 2 reach, 4 competitive and one safe is about right. Seven schools is a lot, but very feasible. and like I wrote if you want scholarships invest the time NOW in making more applications, it's the best way to give you the best chances of getting some offers.

And you seem to be doing well, starting out early and everything, so there's no reason why you can't make 5-6 schools at least in round 1!

Good luck and if you have anything else, don't hesitate,
Best,
JF
