HELP! I'm frustrated with the sentence correction section. [#permalink] New post 04 Nov 2012, 10:55
HI,

I need some advice on improving the sentence correction section. I spent over 6 weeks reviewing the SC Manhattan GMAT book and took over 200 SC questions but I still see no progress in my SC's practice score. I am constantly reviewing all my answers after each practice test and even retaking the tests. But I still feel like i'm not getting anywhere with this section. I'm frustrated and need some advice.

Please help,

This is a great web site for sentence correction. Good luck and study hard. Also, you might want invest a few hours with a tutor who can help you prepare for this section of the exam - as I always say, a few hours with a tutor used correctly can make a huge difference with your score. Good luck and let me know if you find this web site useful.

Sounds like your methods are not up to it. Are you using garbage collection when you read the sentences? Do you automatically check underlined pronouns and verbs? Do you understand how main and dependent clauses work?

I would recommend reading a good grammar book. The GMAT club Grammar book is an excellent free option. It is tough to do well on SC with just one reading of the MGMAT SC guide. Because it contains so much important stuff it can be a little overwhelming and hard to remember. Try to read it chapter wise, and do one chapter every day (should take around an hour). Spend half an hour to an hour reading what was discussed in that chapter in your grammar book or the internet (excellent resources available on the net). I have read the MGMAT SC guide 4 times and can now get 85+% accuracy on the SC. I got 87% accuracy in the last 30 SC questions on the OG13 but i did not bother doing them until i had finished the SC guide at least twice.

If nothing works, then i would suggest taking online classes for SC or going for a tutor.
