Help: Is there any hope for me? Want to get in top B-School [#permalink] New post 04 Jun 2012, 08:40
I am an engineer. Work ex 4 years in “Engineering sector” in India. Average percentage in Engineering degree is 67 % (GPA 3.5 approx).

Results of GMAT attempts as under.
1. 550 (Q 45, V19)
2. 340 (don’t know the break up)
3. 610 (Q 49, V 25) (1st June 2012)

Material used:
1. All MGMAT books for verbal and quant
2. All three official guide books
3. All three Kaplan books

Overall performance for 3rd attempt was good compare to 1st and 2nd and everything going good. Mock results were also good and average of 700 and Average score in Quant around 45 to 50 and Verbal around 35 to 42.

1. GMAT prep 1: 680
2. MGMAT 1: 650
3. MGMAT 2: 700
4. MGMAT 3: 720
5. MGMAT 4: 680
6. GMAT prep 2: 700

Now don’t under what to do? Where to apply? Should I go for 4th attempt? If this many attempts will hurt my profile?

Not understanding what to do? Lots of confusion?

Expert please help… :?: :?:

Hi,

Your GMAT Scores are very low, so I would suggest you to definitely go for the 4th attempt. If you are targeting some good B schools for your MBA, then a score of 610 the odds will be definitely against you.

In reality the number of attempts at GMAT doesn't matter. What matters is a good GMAT score, preferably in the range of 690-750 that will help you to get your application being selected in a top B School.

It is highly advisable in your case to seek assistance from professional consultants for guidance on preparing for GMAT. You can visithttp://www.general-ed.com/Online-GMAT-Preparation to see how General Ed can help you with GMAT preparation.

Also visit http://www.general-ed.com/b-school-selection-process , to be able to select business schools as per your requirement, profile and score.

You may also see http://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool to find your chances of getting admit in a business school chosen by you by providing a few information about your experience, score and skills.

Feel free to post any other query or concern that you might have.

You need to get that gmat score high up for getting into the top b schools

As you have taken the exam 3 times, right now professional help is not a bad idea.

Hello emfjay,
“What-next?” depends on your goals. Why do you want to have an MBA? Only when you clarify your goals in detail you will be able to narrow down the search and identify the “right” MBA programs for you.
Meanwhile you can also use some of the more precise MBA-finder tools to indentify B-schools where you have chances for admission with your current GMAT score and work experience. A good free online tool is the School Finder of Access MBA Reach. When you see a sample list of schools you will have more ideas, I am sure.
Good luck!
