help on assumptions... [#permalink] New post 13 Oct 2006, 19:20
i know that assumptions are important on CR. I can find the conclusion and evidence . but some how i can't link an assumption. :( i went over the course topic on gmat. the two simple examples were easy but when i tried the practice material i was clueless on some of the complicated readings. any tips or hints?

Assumption based (CRs) are never included in the passage. They are an implied link between the evidence (facts) and the conclusion (argument).

For example:

John took the GMAT yesterday, therefore he must have scored very well.

One possible assumption here is that John prepared well for the test.

Just keep practicing and you will get the hang of it. Once you master assumptions, you can learn the negation strategy, which saves critical minutes on the exam.
