Help regarding admissions with no work exp (business family) [#permalink] New post 30 Dec 2013, 22:51
I am going to complete my graduation (engineering) this year , I am planning to do MBA , which I think would aid me in managing my family business , however I don't have any work experience . I have heard that by stating that I have had an exposure to a business environment in the family , the schools would not take the lack of work experience into account . Is it also true that b-schools also reserve a few seats for students from a business background ? Please help ... Also if possible please suggest anything which I could do to boost my admission chances

Most b-schools want to see some actual hands-on experience. There are some that will consider applicants right out of university, with no experience, but they are rare exceptions. A handful of programs, like HBS’ 2+2, are special paths for select, highly qualified (in other ways obviously) applicants to apply right from college, and then if admitted they will work for 1-2 years before actually starting the MBA.

I haven’t heard that having a family that owns a business will equal experience in the adcoms’ eyes. You would need to actually work in the business for it to be construed as experience.

As for the programs that will consider you right out of college, you will have to research that program by program.
