So the best case scenario of going to Tuck is you end up with the exact same job you'd get at Anderson with $70k of additional debt. The worst case scenario is hypothermia.

You're going to be happy no matter where you go. You'll make great friends at either school. Letting emotions rule your decisions is a recipe for disaster. Regret avoidance in particular is a well-documented psychological bias that leads to bad investment decisions. Don't frame the decision in terms of potential regrets.

How important is the west coast?

To me, it sounds like if you dont go to Tuck, and things don't turn out perfectly at UCLA, you'll always wonder "what if", and regret your choice...
I'm just judging off of the tone of your post

Thanks for the thoughts highwyre. West coast is the eventual goal, but if I end up somewhere else right out of school it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Just to give you an idea for me... I want to work on the east coast, no wiggle room... I will not be applying to haas or anderson, because they are almost fully west coast schools.

Chances are you'll make more money coming out of tuck, but theres a strong possibility you'll have limited options on the west coast coming out of school.

So, whats more important, money or location? Prestige or location? Fit or location?

What sounds worse? Making more on the east coast, and being homesick for the west coast
OR
Making less on the west coast, and wondering how much more you could be making? What drives you more?

Based on your post, it sounds like you are already leaning towards Tuck and just want some reinforcement that turning down $70K is a good idea. I think in this case, it definitely is a worthwhile tradeoff. Such a huge scholarship is nothing to scoff at, but you'll probably be able to recoup that over the rest of your working life. If I were in your shoes, I would start taking ice skating lessons and prep for some Tripod Hockey.

Bumping this as I'm in the exact same situation. Wonder what the OP ended up doing...
