HELP - use of contractions [#permalink] New post 07 Oct 2009, 01:51
Stanford is due in a couple of hours and I am struggling with word count :(
I can sneak in a bit more if I use contractions - change all "did not" to "didn't"...

Question - how bad is it to use didn't? Even in a personal statement like the one for Stanford?

I did not use any contractions in my essays (Stanford included). I just do not believe they are appropriate for business writing and my reviewers confirmed this when I asked them.

The adcom are not going to spend their time counting every word in your essay. If your essays are so far over the limit that it's noticeable, you have more problems than using contractions will solve.
