Henry purchased 3 items during a sale. He received a 20% discount off the regular price of the most expensive item and a 10% discount off the regular price of each of the other two items. Was the total amount of the 3 discounts greater than 15% of the sum of the regular price of the 3 items?
1) The regular price of the most expensive item was $50 and the regular price of the next most expensive item was $20
2) The regular price of the least expensive item was $15

I choose (a)

let the prices be a,b,c. from the stem, we know that atleast one item is more expensive than the other 2. thus let c be the most expensive, a,b be either equal or a<b<c.

the stem asks whether (a+b+2c)/10 > 1.5(a+b+c)/10 or whether c>a+b?

statement 1: c=50,b=20. thus c is greater than a+b, as a can either b equal to or less than 20 for the equation to hold. sufficient.

statement 2: a=15. is c>15+b? insufficient.
