Here's an easy one to boost your confidence :-D :

On a certain day there were 1132 different issues traded on the New York Stock Exchange. There were 48 more issues showing an increase than showing a decline and no issues remained the same. How many issues suffered a decline?

X = number of increased issues

X + (X-48) = 1132

2X = 1180

X = 590

X-48 = 542

Same answer

Issues decreased = X
Issues increased = 48 + X
Total issues = 1132

X + X = 48 = 1132
x = 542
