How do companies view "Emerging Leader MBA" program graduate [#permalink] New post 05 Mar 2013, 07:19
Recently, business schools starting to offer the program called "Emerging Leader MBA" or different names for undergraduate students who want to go straight into MBA program. Without having enough experience compared to students from traditional MBA program, I understand that there will be a disadvantage for those students by the time they graduate from the school and go into the job market. However, I would like to know the way the hiring companies think of those students? Do they think that these students are relatively at a young age and have the potential to become the leaders in the future? or With the MBA degree, no actual work experience and demanding higher salaries comparing to the bachelor counterparts, can this type of MBA degree even cause hindrance in the job search?

It will probably cause some sort of hindrance. You'll be 2 years older with no experience and you won't really have much more to offer than those coming straight out of undergrad. Basically, if you're lucky, you'll end up with a job paying the same as an undergrad.

How about MS degree associated with MBA, like MS+MBA dual degree program for the same type of students?

The question is whether or not you have prior work experience. A lot of what you get out of an MBA comes from sharing your experiences with your classmates. It's not really a technical degree where if you know how to calculate X then you will be able to do Y job. Employers are looking for more "mature" candidates who have prior work experience so they can be groomed into leadership/management roles. My viewpoints are completely different than what they were coming out of undergrad, before I started working. I know so much more about dealing with clients, handling certain situations, and about things in general.
