How good is one Year Hult International MBA program ? [#permalink]
26 Feb 2009, 11:50
Hi, I have an interview with Hult recently. I have been told I have a better chance to get selected. I am little skeptical about this program. Since this one a very costly program. So before taking any decision I just want to know how good is this program? I have been told to submit the online application by as soon as possible to meet the 1st March dead line. I am really puzzled , it is seems to be admission committee is desperate to absorb me rather than my interest. Even I got good response for scholarship. But with my current 570 GMAT score and 7 year work experience I am planning to retake GMAT.In fact I am postpone my MBA decision for 1 year for the recent meltdown situation and sluggish job market. Please advise should I go for Hult or stick to my own plan?
Thanks, Maverick

Maverick2008,
Hult is not a prestigious program. For example, it does not appear in Financial Times' top 100 Global MBA programs. Even though your GMAT is low, there are probably better B-schools than Hult that you might be competitive for (at least in terms of your GMAT score), such as Thunderbird, American U., Baylor, IIT (Illinois), Northeastern and UMass in Boston, and San Diego State.
Hope this helps,

Mr. Bodine,
HULT actually DOES appear in the 2009 list of Financial Times.

Hult is actually a very good school. It is much higher ranked than American U., Baylor, IIT (Illinois), Northeastern and UMass in Boston, and San Diego State. In my opinion it is better than Thunderbird because it offers more international opportunities. The only one-year program I know of that is of comparable quality is Babson.

THat school is not that bad. I was considering applying to it, but later changed my mind. I'd say it's average.

Hi Even i got lot of phone calls and emails from HULT for fall 2010 session to apply before 13th dec so thT I can get a better scholarship..I was not interested because I didn't had GMAT score in my hand and I was expecting a decent score but everything got shattered when I got a 510 yesterday..Now I am rethinking of applying to HULT but now I am reluctant if they will accept such a low score although I have 5+ years of IT experience..What do you people suggest? All suggeston are most welcome and I really appreciate...

There are several factors to consider when applying to Hult's MBA program. To address the credibility of the program, consider the fact that this year The Economist ranked Hult the #27 best business school in the world and the #17 best business school in the United States. Hult's ranking held higher than all other MBA programs you mentioned. I suspect its ranking status holds true not only for The Financial Times but also all other MBA program rankings, except US News and World Report. Secondly, Hult's MBA program is a one-year program, instead of two-years. The program style of duration is more similar to European MBA programs than it is to American. Although the education is more costly per year in comparison to other MBA programs, you must consider the fact that you save one year less that you would have to pay in tuition elsewhere. In addition, the cost also includes the expense of earning your degree while abroad, which is impressive. Lastly, the quality of your education at Hult would be valuable and marketable. You not only learn the Socratic Case Method style of learning to solve company problems, but you also learn The Action Learning Method to identify challenges companies face. The Action Learning Method has been used as internship opportunities to springboard most Hult students into their first post-MBA full-time position, earning close to a six-figure income at a prestigious brand company. If you don't like Hult while attending, apply to Thunderbird's one-year post-MBA degree so that you have an MBA and a post- MBA degree in two years with similar debt as a typical MBA graduate, instead of competing with someone fresh out of a full-time MBA program. I hope that helps. Posted from my mobile device

Thunderbird only accept AACSB and EQUIS accredited MBA for its POST-MBA program and Hult is accredited by AMBA only. Can you share something that can put some more light on Thunderbird's admission requirements?

You know guys there is one of the greatest internet legendary website called wikipedia and typing Hult wiki would reply to all your ranking / accreditation concerns. Hult is accredited by all the accreditation boards accepting 1 year concentrated Mbas, meaning all except Aacsb. And the rankings will continue to go up if they carry on with the great job they've done for 5 years and the same growth rate. And believe me, the calpers, db, cs, ubs, goldman, fidelity, state street and co in finance or the bain, monitor, mckinsey, bcg, etc are really achievable with a Hult Mba! Since many of my friends and I did it before or after Hult... Posted from my mobile device

Placement seems solid, with a strong return on investment: http://www.hult.edu/mba-program/your-career/statistics. It definitely seems like a good option for applicants interested in international business.

I'm attending Hult next year in London, I've done a lot of research. I actually was going to attend last september however, decided to take a year off and do some amazing stuff. I've visited the San Francisco, London and Shanghai campuses - feel free to ask me any questions. It's a great school and definitely up and coming, it's smaller and it's brand isn't as strong as many other schools but that doesn't take away from the effort they are putting in to change that.
my background:
Entrepreneur - startup and sold an FX brokerage firm in Canada - made a documentary film about riding a motorcycle around China - mkride
GMAT - - 610 GPA - - slightly above average at major Canadian university
extra's - worked with lots of non profits and ngo's - in the guinness book of world records
- 29 with 7yrs work experience, born and raised in Canada

Good thing we are adding a grain of salt to the advice we read from individual "fish" I highly recommend reading what established media outlets have to say and also visiting and speaking first-hand with students and alumni to get detailed perspectives.

I do not recommend Hult University. I have some friends that just finished and others that are studying and they are all very disappointed. Take in your consideration that Hult is not a well-known university. Very few companies hired MBA graduates from Hult. I strongly recommend you to study in an experienced university. Hult´s marketing team is incredible but it is not the reality... Top University??? Check the real rankings. Why Hult is not in the Forbes ranking or in the Us News one??
