How high does my score have to be? [#permalink] New post 10 Jan 2004, 16:22
My undergraduate degree is in accounting and my GPA was 3.3. I have 5 years of solid accounting work experience and I started my own internet business 1 1/2 years ago (http://www.babyclassroom.com).

My question is this - what score range do I have to be in to be competitive at top shcools? I'm going to be applying for the Masters in Accountancy programs rather than an MBA. Anyone have any idea? I'm just starting my GMAT studies and don't know if I need to shoot for high 600's or really need to be over 700.

Thanks.

I got into Univ of Ill. in 1999 with a 570 GMAT but did not go.... So I think you are fine in the 600s. The competition for MAcc is not that tough. And to be honest, I really do not see any value. I am also a CPA and did the public accounting thing. But since you started a business and if it is doing well, you may have a good chance to get into a good school even if you nail a mid 600s.

I am not sure about your background, but if you are a female, your chances will even be better.

I've heard the same...you don't need a high gmat score to get into most macc programs. A friend of mine is in the macc program at Florida (ranked pretty high) and they only look for a 550+ score.

Oops, I forgot to mention that my ultimate plan is to be an Accounting professor, so I'll be going on to apply for my PhD after I complete my MAcc.
