how much prep did you put into the recommender letters? I wrote a 7 page "dissertation" based on MBA Game Plan book on my goals, why MBA, summary of work, academic, personal, and extracurricular experiences, plus a 8-10 page appendix of those experiences in detail with start and end dates, significance/summary, from college till present.
Now I'm typing up talking points for each question of each recommender form in outline form and a brief summary of each school's stats.
Am I doing too much?
Oh yeah, and then one of my recommenders tell me he wants to do things "differently" and wanted me to know so I can change recommenders if I want to... but yet it's "nothing major"... I have to wait until tomorrow to talk to him... grr!

My letter to my recommenders was similar. I had a 5 page "letter" part, and about a 10 page appendix.

I have a hunch about what my recommender might ask me to do... Since he originally asked me to write a draft for him to edit, and I told him I couldn't do that. A co-worker of mine who's also applying to b-school has just asked the same guy for a rec... I'm guessing he'll ask me to write the rec for her and vice versa...
Oh boy, this probably isn't too good if we're applying to the same schools since they'll recognize my writing style and hers as we both have the same recommender.
Sigh... I hope my hunch is not correct!

I had a three page guide, a two page positioning statement, a page worth of solid examples, and a page with qualities the schools I like are looking for.
I was afraid it would be too much, there were lots of bullet points in there so it was easy reading and reference.

Hehe .. you are really sweating about this "different" recommendation, aren't you
Hopefully it'll be nothing major .. as the recommender said. Don't forget to tell us what it turns out to be.

well, I hope it'll be nothing major, but the way he said "I want to give you the choice of choosing another recommender if you want" made me nervous...

I finished a first draft of my Chicago #1 essay (already have done #2) and I must say that I feel a lot more confident about this than my Kellogg #1. The extra 500 words really made it a lot easier to get everything across without sacraficing material.
I also did the Flesch readability index and every essay so far is above 50, half are in the 60s including both Chicago essays...but once again that damn Kellogg #1 is killing me with a lowly 41.5 thanks to a bunch of big words.

Mine are all around 40, and I guess I'll keep it around there. People are complaining about my "short" sentences making the essays too "stiff" to read. But every time I add in more complex and varied sentences, the flesch score goes down... I think I trust people's judgments more than the software
As for the recommender thing, it's all resolved. There are no major changes other than he'll submit it a day before one of the deadlines because of travel. Not quite sure what all the cryptic messages were about... but I'm happy, so all is well!

Aah .. so nothing to worry about. That's good. But make sure that he does submit the essay a day before the deadline.

With Ross and HBS drafts waiting to be torn up by my reviewers, I am just beginning to think about my MIT essays. Any pointers from those who have already completed MIT?
Thanks!

So now that I got a breather after submitting the W application, I want to see where others are with the applications. So, kryzak, prasad, avi, river, grad_mba, dosa_don, etc etc etc ... where are you guys with the apps? Everybody on plan?

So far so good. Sent Stanford essays out to people to read, but getting no responses so far. Hopefully the comments won't be too drastic.
Went through a grammar scrub of my Stanford and UCLA essays with my roommate. I plan on having a lawyer friend do a final scrub on them before submitting.
Application fields are all filled out and updated as best as I can. so just waiting on the essays to be finally ready and the recommendations to roll in.
Working on Haas essays right now, while waiting for Stanford comments. Hope to submit every thing by 10/19 or earlier, for both Stanford and UCLA. Then spend the week after focusing on Haas and submitting that the week of 10/29.
