How much does the school impact chances at getting a job? [#permalink]

I am looking at applying to Baruch, William and Mary, and Rochester and I was wondering if the school has that much of an impact on getting a job in accounting?

I'd say it has more of an impact for MBAs, but don't be mistaken: it does have an impact. If you're in the Top 10 or 15 not so much for an MSA (although UT or UIUC or UND will basically let you go anywhere), but certainly if you're down on the list and are interested in a particular region. People going to UNC will have a harder time tapping a professional alumni or career network in Chicago compared to UIUC, for example. Ask around and do your homework. Taking a look at the Public Accounting Report rankings (found here: 2010-public-accounting-ranking-msa-undergrad-108416.html#p916356) is a good start.

Most recruit locally. there are several schools that recruit nationally: USC, UVA, ND, Texas, BYU, and Illinois.

if you mean within the DC Metropolitan Area, I think your choices would include GWU, George Mason, UMD...

more broadly, the two standout schools that are reasonably close to DC (as in, you would get recruited by DC area firms) are UVA and William & Mary. UVA has a ton of requirements if you didn't take a lot of accting classes as an undergrad.
