How reliable are the official prep tests and the MG tests? [#permalink]
01 Jun 2011, 02:01
Hi there,
I have a question regarding the prep tests. Do you think these tests are a valid indicator for the test day performance? Especially I had the feeling, that the OG Prep 2 is way too easy. But let's start with the beginning of the story:
I am studying for the GMAT since three weeks now and before starting preparation, I scored a 650 (Q40 V40) in the OG Prep Test 1. I did quite well on the Reasoning and Reading part, but almost everything in SC was wrong since English is not my native language and I know I am really weak in working with grammar etc...
After almost three weeks of study, especially Quant, I did the MGMAT 1 yesterday. The result was devestating, I dropped from 650 to 590. There was only a minor improvement in the Quant Section (from Q40 to Q42) despite I studied so much and Verbal was a disaster (down to V30 !!!).
This morning I took the OG Prep 2 and scored a 750 (Q49, V42). The small incline in the verbal section was probably due to some basic SC working. But Quant was somewhat suprising after the MGMAT 1 result, despite I was delighted by the result since I expected a stronger increase after so much Quant studying.
However, now I am totally confused and I am somewhat in panic with respect to the test day. Based on such huge deviations in my scores I have absolutly no idea what will happen on the test day.
So, do you think the MGMAT or rather the OG prep tests are a good indicator? Or neither nor?
Thank you so much for some impressions and statements based on your experience!

People report GMATPrep is the closest (for obvious reasons): all-gmat-cat-practice-tests-links-prices-reviews-77460.htmlPeople have also reported MGAMT quant is more difficult than the real thing. We also have a score calculator: http://gmatclub.com/gmat-score-calculator/
