how to calculate GPA??

I have done B.Tech From India and recently I got my provisional certificate. I scored 60.8 percent in B.Tech but I'm pretty confused about the equivalent GPA of 60.8 percent. According to Wikipedia anything above 60 per is 4/4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_grading_in_India) but I think it would be weird because a person who scores 90 per will also have a GPA of 4/4 if this was to be true.

Most schools will not ask for your scaled GPA.
I think only Columbia does that.
