How to Decide the right school? [#permalink]
26 Mar 2006, 10:47
Hi,
I know I want to specialize in International business.
I have got my acceptance from Moore School. I think their IMBA program is a perfect choice for International business.
I only applied to this school and didn't apply to any other as I live in SC and think this is the right choice. as an afterthought I am wondering if I Should consider applying to Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, or Columbia etc.
Eitherway I Want to specialize in International Business and will going to a well rounded school like Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, or Columbia give me any better advantage than a specalized school like Moore can?
I appreciate any opinions/suggestions.

I'm doing International Business as well, which is actually why I kind of disregarded Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, etc. when applying to schools. Looking over their curricula, they seemed to be directed more to the "big money" MBAs - acqusitions & mergers, finance, investment banking, etc. - and less on the international aspects. I don't want to do any of those things, so...
I looked at places like LBS (too finance-y, though), INSEAD, Thunderbird, U-Washington, etc. They may not have the huge name associated with them, but they do what they do very well. Also, in my decision about which school was right for me, I took into consideration what people I know who work within the international community had to say about a school. In my case, everyone "in the know" with whom I spoke said wonderful things about Thunderbird, so that's where I'm going.
I'd wager the "only" advantage you'd get from a big name school when pursuing an international career is from the name. Which is, don't get me wrong, a HUGE advantage. But are they really going to focus on and teach you want you want/need to know? (Obviously, I don't think so.)
Hope this helps.
