How to note Consulting role on Resume [#permalink] New post 09 Dec 2009, 09:02
Hello All, I am applying Round2 and have a question regarding consulting Roles.
I am employed thru an independent consulting agency, but working for an Investment Bank. How would you list the experience on your resume?

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you. What I am thinking of doing is putting: Company Name (ABC Staffing) or Title (Temporary) in that respective spot

haven't decided yet, but leaning to the first one.

Generally how I've seen consultants list their experience is to put the consulting firm they worked for as the employer, then in the responsibilities/accomplishment bullets listing client projects they've worked on - either specifying the company by name or more frequently using some sort of placeholder (e.g. "major international investment bank") to preserve client confidentiality.

Oh perhaps I have misunderstood. When I worked at a consulting company, I listed my employer as that company, and detailed projects in bullets

I thought the OP meant that he was in a contractor/temp role at the bank.

You did not misunderstand...I am specifically hired by abc consulting company on a temporary basis to be staffed on a project at xyz investment bank...I think its kind of both, since I am really in a temp role at a bank, but actually employed by a consulting company.

So it sounds like abc is your employer (even if only temporarily), and zyx is your client - which is how I'd recommend positioning it on your resume. Adcoms see plenty of resumes from consultants so it wouldn't be hard for them to understand the situation.
