How top 3 European schools fit in with Top 10 U.S. ranking [#permalink] New post 26 Jul 2009, 03:53
I am aware that most people perceive top 3 European are Insead, IMD and LBS. Across the ocean, US News combines M7 with other 3 (Haas, Tuck and Stern/Yale) as their top 10 U.S. elite.

Let's say I'm not interested in any specialty ranking but rather taking overall brand recognition, general management and program rigor into account. How do you fit the European school into the ranking? What are peer schools of Insead, IMD and LBS in U.S.? I think peers won't be the same for 3 of them. so interested to see people's opinion on the classification.

Hi FMCG,

We have a thread about ranking of European schools that uses the same groups – Ultra Elite, Elite, etc. as the ranking of the US schools, so you could figure out peers schools that way - check our International forum.

As to my personal opinion:

LBS -> Wharton (maybe Chicago too)
INSEAD -> Kellogg, Columbia
IMD -> Tuck, Berkeley
Oxbridge -> Stern, Yale, Duke, Cornell, Darden

This is speaking in the context of overall non-differentiated reputation... if we start to analyse the program rigor or focus, we might get gifferent results... same is true for overall brand recognition: Oxbridge schools will beat, say, IMD because of that.

I would say in Finance LBS is more along the lines of NYU than Wharton...it is extremely strong in Finance. Insead is more along the lines of Kellogg with a well rounded highly regarded program and a great rep in Consulting...its even more like Kellogg's 1Y program. I do tend to think that outside of England and probably Wall Street, Insead is held in higher regard in the MBA world...especially in the consulting world. I would put Insead as the Europe equivalent of a top 5 and LBS in the top 10 schools.

Kellogg Class of 2010...still active and willing to help. However, I do not do profile reviews, don't offer predictions on chances and am far to busy to review essays, so save the energy of writing me a PM seeking help for these. If I don't respond to a PM that is not one of the previously mentioned trash can destined messages, please don't take it personally I get so many messages I have a hard to responding to most. The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.
