E is a run-on sentence.
A is my choice. However much means although , doesn't it?

This is A indeed!
More than the idiom, its about the meaning of the sentence.
However much means no matter how strongly you want to.....
No other choice conveys the same meaning.

throw B,C and D out of the window. We need a 'that' for a complete sentence

Though E does not have a grammatical error, we can pick A by going for the most concise choice.
