B.

such as is preferable to "like" for giving examples.
having been taken in C seems awkward.

B is the correct answer.
Trick is to elimiate '...like...' and look for '..such as...'

B is good.

"such as " is used to give examples. So, eliminate "like". B is direct and clear.

Though is necessary to illustrate the contradiction. Execute D and E. Measures is plural, so axe A for using like as the worng comparison. Between B and C, C incorrectly uses population increases, therefore C gets sliced and diced.

B survives intact.

(Sorry about the dry Halloween humor :saw)

Should be B

such is used corectly here over like since an example is given.
also the second half of the sentenc should show the past tense.
