Question Stats:

100% (00:00) correct 0% (00:00) wrong based on 0 sessions
I) All wheeled conveyances that travel on the highway are polluters.
II) Bicycles are not polluters
III) Whenever I drive my car on the highway it rains.
IV) It is raining.

The conclusion "My car is not polluting" could be logically deduced from statements I to IV if statement

a) II were changed to "Bicycles are polluters"
b) II were changed to "My car is a polluter"
c) III ------------------ "If bicycles were polluters i would be driving my car on the highway"
d) IV were changed to "Rainwater is polluted"
e) IV were changed to "It is not raining".

Please provide explanation for your answer

I think E is the answer.

IV. It is not raining
III. Whenever I drive my car on the highway it rains.
1. I am not driving my car (modus tollens IV and III)

Has anybody encountered this kind of questions on GMAT?

If it is not raining, it means he is not driving and therefore not polluting.
