A is fine.

We need a subordinate conjunction (contract the point) to join to IC with DC. Since will work just fine.

It's between A and C.

whereas is used to express contrast, and the sentence seems to express the difference in the findings of scientists and COBE researchers.

I would go with E on this one, because the when clearly makes the contradiction in the sentence sound right...I am really poor in explaining why something is right or wrong...

A cannot be correct because the clause is in past perfect (pp), and not present perfect (pp1). after since, we need present perfect (has/have).

OA is C...

we need whereas to show contrast between the two Independent statements...nothing to do with past participles...
