I have a phone interview [#permalink]

from my undergraduate school.
I majored in physics there, got a 2.8. Have multiple family members who went there. Received a 700 on the GMAT, which is about 100 points above their average. Wrote some great essays, got 3 recommendations. I figured I was a shoe in for this school.
The lady calls me up tells me that the committee wants to have a phone interview. She was somewhat perplexed by it as well; she said that its not usually normal for that to happen to students who went there for undergrad.
What can I expect from this interview? Whats this all mean?
So someone called you up and said, "Hi we'd like you to have a phone interview. I'm perplexed, this isn't normal."
Sounds like a horribly run admission office if they're freaking people out like that.
If you blew past the average GMAT at that school by 100 points then trust me, your GPA is absolutely a non-issue. Plus, a 2.8 in physics is like getting a 3.3 in psychology, people will cut you slack for a difficult major.
