I study in India doing B.E Computer Science from SVCE in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The answer to this question will affect my career decision:
I have 3 backlogs and a CGPA of merely 7.0.
Reason for backlog:
My mom used to make me recite answers in XIIth standard (rote learning) and I used to read word to word.. My mom only knew to look at the textbook and any word I recited wrong, she would correct it. That whole practice became a part of my disorder. I can't move on to another topic in the syllabus unless I have learned it word by word 1000%. Because of this, I covered very less syllabus and ended up having insufficient preparation to do well in my exams.. But 5th semester to 8th semester, I've shown an improvement in grade rising upward.
Now coming from India, my family has to shed 95000 US Dollars for tuition fees abroad in some business school. Assuming I get a GMAT score of 700+ and I have 2 years of work experience in IT field, will I GET GOOD VALUE FOR THE TUITION FEES I SPEND ON A B-SCHOOL ABROAD? The reason I'm asking this is whether to even consider writing the GMAT.. If I'm not going to get into atleast the top 100 b-schools and value for money because of my poor undergrad performance.. Then I might as well prepare for local CAT exams to get into IIM's in India.. This is a life decision.. Please help me here..
Other details:
90% - Xth standard
89% - XIIth standard
Future CGPA - 7.0 with history of 3 backlogs and upward rise from semester V.
Future GMAT score (By god's grace and hard work) - 700+
If my CGPA is going to be a problem and the history of arrear is going to be looked down upon, then is it even worth taking the GMAT?
I think you should talk to a good local consultant (such as whiteglowconsulting.com - Indian partner of Veritas Prep) to understand the scope for an international student in a top 100 school. Before you wonder whether you will get admission, find out the scope post MBA. If you work hard enough during MBA, your B-Tech scores should not pull you back. You can also discuss your profile with the consultant and your target schools.
Other options you can consider:
MS from a top institute in US - it is not very hard to get scholarships. An MBA could be considered subsequently.
MBA from a top Indian B-school - investment is far less and chances of post MBA success high, but it is an altogether different path than what you have in mind right now.
