I'm tired and angry [#permalink] New post 14 Jan 2008, 06:15
After about 5-6 Kaplan CATs I have topped out at 550. On my last CAT which was GMATPrep, I scored a 460. I felt angry and frustrated throughout the test and wanted to throw my pencil and book at the wall, due to feeling frustrated. I had about 5-7 minutes free at the end of the test, and I certainly felt like I rushed. I was not breathing correctly and I was just plain old angry.

I need help. Lots of help. Words of encouragement? Similar stories? I need help.

Well may be use this opportunity to train yourself to be more patient and no matter how frustrated it gets do NOT lose hope. There is a big reward at the end for you if you can execute your plan. Nope not talkin about just the GMAT score but sense of accomplishment...

Remember anything that worth anything does not come easy. So, stick to it and read 'shared GMAT score' forum for the 'encouragement' stories.

Good luck!

Hi, don't worry, I'm in the same boat (I've been posting here for a week about my similar situation in fact!)! Highest I've gotten in practice tests was a 590 and that is with completing the Kaplan course.

Since the new year, I've become more focused with my studying - I feel like I lost a lot of precious time during the holidays that I could have used to study and now that my classes are through, I'm not as disciplined. It only takes about 1-2 hours a night and some more on the weekends to make a huge difference, and make sure you are really learning from your mistakes (this is something I was having trouble with before reading these forums) Just hang in there and if you feel like you aren't ready, do not schedule the test yet.

On one level the GMAT is a test to see what you know, but on another level it's a test to see how well you can do given a completely arbitrary challenge. Think about the show Apprentice, it's like the Trump (wharton lol) telling you to take a quiz and you only have a certain amount of time to study.

I think many admissions depts figure if you get frustrated and give up on the GMAT and can't step up to do well, then they don't want you in their school. So don't give up.

Also start by throwing that Kaplan CD with the tests out of the door. They do not reflect actual GMAT questions.

To the original poster: How much have you spent studying vs. testing yourself? When I began studying, I did not test myself. I studied for almost four months and tested myself about a week before the test for the first time.

And when I say I studied, I mean I studied. I worked through a Kaplan Geometry book. A Kaplan Algebra book. A PR study guide for gmat math. A Kaplan guide for gmat math. And every single question in the official guide. That was the first 2-3 months. Any problem I missed I marked and tried again later. Like two weeks later.

Then I studied sentence correction. SC is all that I studied for verbal because I am good at logic and read really well. But SC was hard. So for a month, I did those. I did everyone in the OG.

I scored a 710 on my first GMATprep...a 720 on my second and a 730 on the real deal. But I studied my ass off. And I have not been in school in almost a decade. Even when I was I only got a 2.6 gpa.

So my original question stands. How much time have you spent studying vs. testing yourself?
