I took my GMAT third time! [#permalink] New post 13 Jun 2003, 18:25
Hi, I would like to thank all of you for a perfect site you have here! I took my GMAT today (it was a third try) and got 670 (49/32)! It was over my expectations! I was looking at something about 600. I got 560 on the first try and 530 on the second (Verbal section was always putting me down).
Math part was awful!!! One the sixth questions I stuck and was forced to guess. I had 4 combinations/permutations problems and couple probability questions but thanks to an extensive practice on the math forum, it was a piece of cake!

Boris, Thanks for sharing great news with us!

4 combinations is a little too much. Your improvement also inspires. Obviously you used other materials besides the math forum  do you mind telling what exactly was your choice?

Sure, the math forum was not the only place:) However, as for an advance preparation it was the best place with the best questions. I would say that 60% of the questions are far above the GMAT level of difficulty but when you get used to the hard questions it is so much easier not to panic on the test day when you see something difficult.
About books: OG is defiantly the best, I went through it 3 times, and every time was studying something new :)
Kaplan is a good book with perfect 4 tests on CD. These test are CAT test and every time you improve your math/verbal level, you see increasingly advanced questions.
Princeton Review is not so bad but I personally do not like it.

To tell you the truth, during 6 month of preparations and 3 attempts to beat GMAT, I probably have read all GMAT books in Barnes&Nobels. Kaplan Math Workout was very helpful, all other books just a source of questions for your preparation.

670 is a great score. Please elaborate on the Real Deal vs. the OG for Math questions. I have been using mostly the 10th ed OG and have worked on the problems over and over again... reviewing the math part, pretty much about 3 or more times. How did the GMAT exam compare with the OG math (250+ questions at the end of PS in 10th ed. is harder and that's what I have been doing)?

I take the REAL Deal on 6-21-03.
Respond to anguyen@cstech-inc.com would be great.

Thanks

what is the OG? Is it a book?

I've just started preparing for the GMAT myself. The books I'm using so far are: Kaplan Math Review and Kaplan GMAT 2004.

Thanks!

Paz,

Yes, OG is the Official Guide. It is a book published by GMAC and it contains 1,200 real questions from previous tests. These questions are the closesest to the GMAT that is available for preparation. More thoughts are here:
