Can someone explain the idiom equally well?
and also the use of equal rather than equivalent.

Let me try this one...

Well (adjective) - used to refer to health

E.g.
I am feeling equally well

E.g.
Chorbakr is an equally well established community.

equal = equal
equivalent = nearly equal
