Simply divide both sides of the equation by (1+ 1/r), isolating X.

then, on the other side of the equation, you get 1/(1+ 1/r)

So you've solved for x. Now you need to simplfy.

Since you have a fraction, you can multiply the top by whatever you'd like, as long as you multiply the bottom. The thorny part of this expression is the 1/r part, so lets multiply the top and bottom of the fraction by r.

Top of the fraction is 1. 1*r=r

Bottom of the fraction is (1+ 1/r). Multiply both terms by r, and you get r+(r/r), which reduces to r+1

hence, 1/(r+1)
