if x<2, then 2-x=5/2; x=-1/2
if x>2 , then x-2=5/2; x=9/2

9/2-1/2=8/2=4

The given equation can also be written as $$|2-x|=\frac{5}{2},$$ which means that $$x$$ is at distance $$5/2$$ from $$2$$.
One solution is $$2 + 5/2$$, the other one $$2 - 5/2$$.
Their sum gives $$4$$.
