Using statement (1), we get an equation in x and y, which is insufficient to calculate the value of x without knowing the value of y.
Using statement (2), if 4z = 6 -y => 12z = 18 - 3y Putting this value of z in the given equation, we get 3x - 3y = 12z = 18-3y => x = 18/3 = 6. Sufficient.
